Annual awards feature roofs designed to be picked up and moved and green walls that make it easier to breathe!

TORONTO, ON, November 8, 2010: Green Roofs for Healthy Cities is pleased to announce the winners the 2010 Green Roof and Wall Awards of Excellence!

Jeffrey L. Bruce, Chairman of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities announced the winners in the lead-up to CitiesAlive: The 8th Annual Green Roof and Wall Conference and Trade Show (November 30 to December 3, 2010) in Vancouver, BC.

“Since 2003, the Awards of Excellence have defined the leading edge of innovation for green roofs,” said Mr. Bruce. “The class of 2010 demonstrates the universal acceptance of green roofs and walls as an important green infrastructure tool in North America with dozens of monumental, highly visible projects. With an exceptionally competitive program this year winners should be proud of their accomplishments in challenging the boundaries of the industry.”

Award Recipient: Diamond and Schmitt Architects (Architect)
Thousands of visitors to the Royal Botanical Gardens are learning about what green walls are and how they work thanks to one visionary design team.

Green Roof - Intensive Industrial/Commercial
Project: 250 Hudson Street, New York, New York
Award Recipient: FXFOWLE Architects (Architect)
Part of a $30 million retrofit, green roof designers used plants and flowers of different textures to create a relaxing 8,000-square foot rooftop space for tenants.

Green Roof - Extensive Institutional
Project: Vancouver Convention Centre Expansion Project
Award Recipient: PWL Partnership Landscape Architects Inc. (Landscape Architects)
This green roof redefines Vancouver's waterfront: emulating nature, a sophisticated runnel system created an efficient and elegant stormwater solution.

Green Roof - Extensive Residential
Project: Mill Valley Hillside, Mill Valley, California

Sculpted into a hillside, this green roof helped create a thriving family compound that neighbors and nature can celebrate.

Green Roof - Special Recognition
Project: Target Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Award Recipient: The Kestrel Design Group, Inc. (Green Roof Design), and Sika Sarnafil (Manufacturer – Roofing and Waterproofing systems)
