Steven Peck, Founder and President

Over more than a decade, Mr. Peck has conducted public policy research on a variety of environment and economy issues with a focus on environmental technology transfer and public policy. In 1996, he established the Cardinal Group Inc., a consulting firm that provides services focused on processes, policies and programs that result in sustainable businesses and sustainable community development. Mr. Peck recently co-authored two reports for the Climate Change Secretariat’s “Technology Table” and prepared Canada’s Report on the Status of Sustainable Communities for the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg.

In addition to his policy research, Mr. Peck is the founder and President of “Green Roofs for Healthy Cities” established in 1999 after completion of the report “Greenbacks from Green Roofs: Forging a New Industry in Canada. The association has over 5,000 members and has completed a number of initiatives designed to generate a market for widespread green roof infrastructure implementation:

  • Developed a $1.1 million research and demonstration project in Toronto, including Toronto City Hall.
  • Organized an international green roof conference now coming into its 4th year.
  • Developed a Training and Accreditation program for green roof designers that is being rolled out across North America.
  • Worked with a wide range of cities to develop research and policies that support green roof implementation.
  • Developed the “Green Roof Awards of Excellence” to recognize outstanding integrated, restorative green roof designs.

Mr. Peck has written extensively on the topic of green roof design, policy and research and has spoken on the subject at conferences throughout North America and Internationally. He is currently leading the organization of a World Green Roof Network that will encourage the formation of green roof industry associations throughout the world.
