Vancouvercenter is a mixed-use project in the heart of downtown
Vancouver, Washington housing retail, office space, and for-sale
condos. Vancouvercenter sits on a public underground garage that
spans the two city blocks connecting a major public park to the primary
transit center. The garage roof accommodates a public plaza, a promenade,
and two private gardens and is divided into three zones. The north
garden has a formal architectural structure and uses the landscape
in a free form planting pattern. The plaza is at the midpoint of
the promenade serves as the ‘living room’ of the project. The south garden has informal structures using natural rock outcroppings as the architectural elements. The stadium steps and granite benches provide formal seating in the public areas while lawns and raised planting bed walls provide informal seating areas in the private gardens. The “bubbler fountain” creates
quiet ambient noise to mask the street traffic as well as adding
visual interested and a summer cooling effect.
